  1. (a)

    1. (1) In those counties in which the quorum court shall elect to establish a county museum under the provisions of this subchapter, the museum shall be under the direct management and control of a county museum commission, which shall consist of three (3), six (6), or nine (9) members to be appointed by the county judge, subject to confirmation and approval of the quorum court.

    2. (2)

      1. (A) The size of the commission shall be determined by the quorum court in collaboration with the museum director and the chair of the commission if they exist at the time of the determination.

      2. (B) The determination of size shall be made considering the size of the museum and the population of the county.

  2. (b)

    1. (1) The county judge shall specify, at the time of appointment, the respective terms of the first members appointed to the commission in such a manner that the terms of one (1), two (2), or three (3) members shall expire on January 1 of the year next following the appointment of that member, and the remaining members shall be appointed in such a manner that the term of one (1) member shall expire on January 1 of each year thereafter.

    2. (2) Successor members shall be appointed for three-year staggered terms and shall serve until their successors are appointed and qualified.

  3. (c) If any vacancy shall occur on the commission, the vacancy shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired portion of the term, in the same manner as provided for the initial appointment.

  4. (d) Members of the commission shall serve without pay.

  5. (e) The commission shall elect one of its members as chair and shall also elect such other officers as the commission may deem necessary, from time to time.
