(a) All members of the police force of the Virgin Islands shall perform such duties as may be assigned to them by the Police Commissioner.
(b) Upon the request of the United States Attorney for the Virgin Islands, the Police Commissioner, with the approval of the Governor, may assign not more than two members of the Police Force to full-time duty with the office of the United States Attorney. No member shall be so assigned without the prior approval of the United States Attorney and each member so assigned shall be subject to the direct supervision and control of the United States Attorney during the continuance of such assignment.
