Appointment of notaries public by Lieutenant Governor

  • (a) The Lieutenant Governor may appoint and commission not more than 600 notaries public for the Virgin Islands, exclusive of notaries public ex officio and members of the Virgin Islands Bar, who shall hold office for a period of four years. The Executive Secretary of the Legislature of the Virgin Islands shall be granted a commission by the Lieutenant Governor as a notary public ex officio. Each official court reporter and assistant court reporter to the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands and the District Court of the Virgin Islands, each official reporter of the Legislature of the Virgin Islands, and the Registrar and Deputy Registrars of Vital Statistics of the Department of Health shall be granted commissions by the Lieutenant Governor as notaries public ex officio. Any person admitted to practice law in the Virgin Islands as a member of the Virgin Islands Bar shall upon application and a showing of his membership be issued a commission for a period of four years.

  • (b) The Lieutenant Governor may promulgate such rules and regulations as he deems necessary, pursuant to the provision of Title 3, chapter 35, Virgin Islands Code, for the proper administration and enforcement of this chapter.
