Interdepartmental coordinating committee

  • (a) An Interdepartmental Coordinating Committee is established, composed of the Commissioners of Health, Education, Human Services, Police Commissioner, Director of Vocational Rehabilitation and other appropriate agencies and the Director. The Committee shall meet at least twice annually at the call of the Commissioner of Health, who shall be its Chairman. The Committee shall provide for the coordination of, and exchange of information on, all programs relating to mental illness, alcoholism and drug dependency, and shall act as a permanent liaison among the departments engaged in activities affecting the mentally ill, alcoholics, intoxicated and drug dependent persons. The Committee shall assist the Commissioner and Director in formulating a comprehensive plan for prevention of mental illness, alcoholism and drug dependency and for treatment of the mentally ill, alcoholics, intoxicated and drug dependent persons.

  • (b) In exercising its coordinating functions, the Committee shall assure that:

    • (1) the appropriate governmental agencies provide all necessary medical, social, treatment and educational services for the mentally ill, alcoholics, intoxicated and drug dependent persons and for the prevention of mental illness, alcoholism and drug dependency without unnecessary duplication of service;

    • (2) the several governmental agencies shall cooperate in the use of facilities and in the treatment of the mentally ill, alcoholics, intoxicated and drug dependent persons; and

    • (3) all governmental agencies shall adopt approaches, such as the employees' assistance program, to the prevention of mental illness, alcoholism and drug dependency and the treatment of mental illness, alcoholics, intoxicated and drug dependent persons consistent with the policy of this chapter.
