(a) Permits required by the provisions of this chapter shall be obtained in writing from the Director. Permits shall be for such period as the Director may specify but not exceeding one year. They shall be kept on the premises designated therein and shall be subject to inspection by any officer of the fire or police services.
(b) Before permits are issued the Director shall make or cause to be made such inspections or tests as are necessary to assure that the provisions of this chapter are complied with.
(c) No permit required pursuant to the provisions of this chapter shall be issued for the location of hazardous chemicals or activities unless the permitted use is located beyond 1,000 feet of any nursery, elementary, or secondary school, playground, hospital, or senior citizens' residential center; Provided, however, That any gasoline or storage facility which had been in active operation prior to the enactment of Act 4886 shall not be affected.
