  • (a) The Director of Motor Vehicles shall cause to be inspected, not less than once every six months, every school bus operating within the Virgin Islands. Such inspection shall insure that each school bus vehicle is in compliance with:

    • (1) all safety provisions of this chapter;

    • (2) all safety provisions recommended by the Commissioner of Education and the Director of Motor Vehicles and approved by the Governor; and

    • (3) all safety provisions recommended by federal law, rule, or regulation and required to be met as a condition of federal funding of any education or transportation program.

  • (b) The Director of Motor Vehicles shall affix to each vehicle inspected pursuant to the provisions of this section and found by the Director to be in compliance and safe to operate, a certificate of inspection. Such certificate shall have clearly visible thereon an expiration date of not more than six months from the most recent day such vehicle was inspected. A valid certificate of inspection shall be required before any school bus vehicle is used to transport any passengers. A valid certificate of inspection shall be affixed to and clearly visible from the interior and exterior of each school bus vehicle operated in the Virgin Islands.

  • (c) The Director of Motor Vehicles is authorized to do all things reasonably necessary to carry out the provisions of this section.
