  • (a) If a person holds a bona fide unexpired operator's license issued by a State of the United States or a territory or possession thereof, such person shall be permitted to operate a motor vehicle in the Virgin Islands as if he held a valid Virgin Islands operator's license, however, said person shall be required to obtain a Virgin Islands operator's license as provided in this chapter within ninety days after his date of arrival in the Virgin Islands. If the person holds a bona fide unexpired operator's license issued by a foreign country, the Director of Motor Vehicles shall issue a temporary permit to drive for a period not exceeding 30 days upon payment of the fee prescribed by law.

  • (b) In his discretion, the Director may grant a Virgin Islands operator's license to an applicant who holds a bona fide unexpired operator's license issued by a State of the United States or a foreign country without the test of driving ability prescribed by subsection (b) of section 375 of this title.
