Territorial Forester for purpose of federal programs; duties; Deputy

  • (a) The Commissioner of Agriculture shall be the Territorial Forester of the Virgin Islands.

  • (b) The Territorial Forester shall constitute the sole state agency for the handling of all programs of the federal government under the provisions of the federal laws referred to in Title 7, section 151, Virgin Islands Code.

  • (c) In addition to such other duties as may be imposed by law, the Territorial Forester shall:

    • (1) provide technical advice and service on forestry matters to private forest landowners; and

    • (2) cooperate with the federal and state governments, and with private and public agencies in the procurement, production, and distribution of forest-tree seeds and plants, for the purpose of establishing forests, windbreaks, shelter belts, and farm woodlots on denuded or nonforested lands.

  • (d) The Governor may appoint a Deputy Territorial Forester to act on behalf of the Commissioner of Agriculture in the discharge of his duties as Territorial Forester.
