  • (a) Every motorboat on the waters of the Virgin Islands shall be numbered. No person shall operate or give permission for the operation of any motorboat on such waters unless the motorboat is numbered in accordance with applicable federal law, or in accordance with a federally approved numbering system of a state, territory or possession of the United States and unless: (1) the certificate or number awarded to such motorboat is in full force and effect, and (2) the identifying number set forth in the certificate of number is displayed on each side of the bow of such motorboat.

  • (b) In addition to motorboats as required by this section, no person shall use or operate any vessel including sailboats, hobbiecats, dinghies, tenders, jet skis, or other similar contrivances on any of the waters of the Virgin Islands unless:

    • (1) such vessel is registered with the Department of Planning and Natural Resources; and

    • (2) an identifying number and decal is visibly displayed on the vessel and the operator can present a valid registration certificate.

  • (c) A vessel documented by the United States Coast Guard shall not be required to display numbers under this chapter but shall be required to register and display a decal in accordance with the provisions of subsection (b) of this section.
