  • (a) A person or entity, including a Government entity that acquires an AED shall ensure that:

    • (1) The users receive appropriate training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and in the use of an AED by the American Heart Association, National Safety Council, American Safety and Health Institute, American Red Cross, or by any other nationally recognized course provider in CPR and AED use;

    • (2) The defibrillator is maintained and tested according to the manufacturer's guidelines;

    • (3) There is involvement of the V.I. Department of Health with the entity's program, so as to ensure compliance with the requirements for training, EMS notification and maintenance;

    • (4) Any person who renders emergency care or treatment on a person in cardiac arrest by using an AED activates the emergency medical services system as soon as possible, and reports any clinical use of the AED to the licensed physician or medical authority; and

    • (5) Any person or entity that acquires an AED shall notify an agent of the emergency communications or vehicle dispatch center of the location and type AED. The emergency communications or vehicle dispatch center must thereafter notify the V.I. Department of Health of the location and type of AED within 30 days.
