Valedictorian and Salutatorian Awards

  • (a) There are hereby established the Valedictorian and Salutatorian Awards which shall be administered by the Board of Education and awarded each year to the valedictorian and salutatorian of each high school in the Virgin Islands. Such awards shall be one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) for the valedictorian and seven hundred dollars ($700.00) for the salutatorian and shall be presented to each valedictorian and salutatorian at an appropriate ceremony held by the Legislature during the last two weeks of June of every year.

  • (b) A perma plaque resolution shall be prepared and presented by the President of the Legislature at the aforesaid ceremony to each valedictorian and salutatorian annually, which resolution shall contain a brief biography of the graduate and his or her educational accomplishment.

  • (c) In addition to the scholarships established in subsection (a) of this section, any student graduating from a secondary high school as valedictorian or salutatorian, and who is unable to attend the University of the Virgin Islands because it does not offer that student's major, but who has been accepted and enrolled into a university or college, shall be awarded scholarships as follows: valedictorian — $6,000.00; salutatorian — $4,000.00.
