Persons who may be admitted into mental hospital

  • The following persons may be admitted into the mental hospital as patients—
    • (1) All persons who have been adjudged mentally ill by the district court and ordered to be conveyed to the mental hospital and who are indigent. Such patients shall be known as “public patients”.

    • (2) All persons who may be certified to be mentally ill according to the provisions of this chapter, and are maintained at the mental hospital at their own expense or at the expense of their relatives or friends. Such patients shall be known as “private patients”.

  • Private patients shall be entitled to any extra considerations contracted for with the Virgin Islands through the Commissioner of Health.
