(a) If it is found that a defendant adjudged mentally ill under this subchapter is possessed of property, or that some other person is legally liable for his support, the judge may, from time to time, upon request of the Commissioner of Health, cite the guardian of the defendant, or other person legally liable for his support, to appear at the time fixed in the citation, then and there to show cause why the government of the Virgin Islands should not have judgment for the amount due it for the support and maintenance of such person. If sufficient cause is not shown, judgment may be entered against the guardian or such other person for the amount found to be due to the government. The judgment may be enforced as in other cases.
(b) The United States attorney shall appear and represent the government in all proceedings under this section.
