§ 15a. Border crossings; cooperation with federal government

(a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, the agency (in the case of state highways) and municipalities (in the case of town highways) are authorized to cooperate with federal projects to modernize border crossings between the United States and Canada by relinquishing to the federal government those portions of state or town highways approaching the border that may be required by the federal government for its border crossing projects, pursuant to the provisions of subsection (b) of this section.

(b) In connection with the relinquishments authorized in subsection (a) of this section, the agency and municipalities are authorized to execute agreements with the federal government, including a conveyance of an interest in real property, easements, leases, and other instruments necessary to assure that federal requirements are met. The federal government shall be responsible for maintenance of those state and town highways relinquished under this section. (Added 2003, No. 56, § 51, eff. June 4, 2003.)
