Eligibility for leave under this part shall be limited to those public employees who qualify as members of a United States team for athletic competition, on the world, Pan-American or Olympic level in a sport contested in either Pan-American or Olympic competitions.
The granting of leave under this part shall be discretionary with the public employer.
In order to qualify for leave under this part, a public employee must:
Be actively working for the public employer from whom the leave is requested at the time the request is made;
Request such leave of absence from the public employer a reasonable period which, whenever practicable, will be fifteen (15) days prior to the date the public employee wishes such leave to commence;
At the time of the request for the leave of absence:
Provide the public employer with the actual or anticipated dates of the competition in which the public employee expects to compete or participate, together with the dates of any official training camp period required for preparation for competition;
Specify the total number of days of leave that will be necessary in order for the public employee to participate in and prepare for the athletic competition or competitions involved; and
Submit to the public employer satisfactory evidence of qualification and selection for participation in the athletic competitions covered by this part.
