Felonies are classified for the purpose of sentencing into five (5) categories:
Class A felonies;
Class B felonies;
Class C felonies;
Class D felonies; and
Class E felonies.
An offense designated a felony without specification as to category is a Class E felony.
Misdemeanors are classified for the purpose of sentencing into three (3) categories:
Class A misdemeanors;
Class B misdemeanors; and
Class C misdemeanors.
An offense designated as a misdemeanor without specification as to category is a Class A misdemeanor.
