(A) As used in this section, "compensation" includes, but is not limited to, wages and salary, travel allowances paid pursuant to section 101.27 of the Revised Code, and benefits paid pursuant to sections 124.13, 124.19, 124.381, 124.382, 124.383, 124.384, 124.385, and 124.386 of the Revised Code.
(B)(1) The compensation of any employee who is paid by warrant of the director of budget and management shall be paid by direct deposit. Each such employee shall provide to the appointing authority a written authorization for payment by direct deposit. The authorization shall include the designation of a financial institution equipped to accept direct deposits and the number of the account into which the deposit is to be made. The authorization shall remain in effect until withdrawn in writing by the employee or until dishonored by the financial institution. The director of administrative services shall provide by rule adopted under Chapter 119. of the Revised Code for the direct deposit in a financial institution of the compensation of an employee who fails to provide to the appointing authority a written authorization for payment by direct deposit.
(2) Division (B)(1) of this section does not apply to an employee who was appointed to the employee's current position before June 5, 2002, who is a public employee as defined in section 4117.01 of the Revised Code, and whose applicable collective bargaining agreement does not require the employee to be paid by direct deposit.
