Becoming a candidate for director. (Effective July 1, 2022.)

Any person wishing to become a candidate for the office of director in any district shall file a declaration of candidacy pursuant to the provisions of the Local Election Act [Chapter 1, Article 22 NMSA 1978], stating the election precinct for which the person is a candidate, accompanied by a petition signed by not less than ten qualified electors of the election precinct for which the person is a candidate to represent. No declaration of candidacy shall be accepted unless accompanied by such petition, signed by electors.

ANNOTATIONS

The 2018 amendment, effective July 1, 2022, required any person who desires to become a candidate for the office of director in any conservancy district to file a written declaration of candidacy pursuant to the provisions of the Local Election Act; and after "in any district shall", deleted "by the last Friday of July before the election", after "file", deleted "in the office of the secretary of the district", and after "declaration of candidacy", added "pursuant to the provisions of the Local Election Act".
