The county seat of the county of Chaves shall be in the town of Roswell in said county and the county seat of Eddy shall be in the town of Carlsbad in said county.

ANNOTATIONSCompiler's notes. — Laws 1889, ch. 87, § 4, as enacted, provided, in relation to Eddy county, that the county seat of Eddy county "shall be in the town of Eddy in said county" and provided for an election in 1890 at which some other place could be named as the county seat. The change to "the town of Carlsbad" first appeared in the 1915 Code.
