There shall be eleven district judges in the fifth judicial district.

ANNOTATIONSRepeals and reenactments. — Laws 1961, ch. 188, § 12, repealed former 16-3-3.5, 1953 Comp., relating to initial appointment and election of additional judge for division four, first district, and a new 16-3-3.5, 1953 Comp., was enacted by Laws 1968, ch. 69, § 11.
The 2014 amendment, effective May 21, 2014, created an additional judgeship; and after "shall be", changed "ten" to "eleven".
Temporary provisions. — Laws 2014, ch. 73, § 6 provided that additional district judgeships provided for in Laws 2014, ch. 73 shall be filled by appointment by the governor pursuant to the provisions of Article 6 of the constitution of New Mexico.
The 2006 amendment, effective July 1, 2006, increased the number of judges from eight to ten.
1994 amendments. — Identical amendments to this section were enacted by Laws 1994, ch. 65, § 1 and Laws 1994, ch. 77, § 1, both effective January 1, 1995 and both approved March 4, 1994, to increase the number of judges from seven to eight.
