Sec. 278.
(1) Included in section 236 for fiscal year 2021-2022 is funding for the Martin Luther King, Jr. - Cesar Chavez - Rosa Parks select student support services program for developing academically or economically disadvantaged student retention programs for 4-year public and independent educational institutions in this state. Preference may not be given to participants on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, gender, or national origin. Institutions should encourage participation from those who would otherwise not adequately be represented in the student population.
(2) An award made under this program to any 1 institution shall not be greater than $150,000.00, and the amount awarded shall be matched on a 70% state, 30% college or university basis.
(3) The program described in this section shall be administered by the department of labor and economic opportunity.
