There is established a Division of Adjudication within the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority. The staff of the division shall include, but not be limited to, hearing officers appointed pursuant to subsection (c) of section 16-2. The responsibilities of the division shall include, but not be limited to, hearing matters assigned under said subsection and advising the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority concerning legal issues. A panel of one or more utility commissioners may assign a hearing officer pursuant to section 16-2, and the chairperson of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority may assign such other staff as are necessary to advise said chairperson.

History: P.A. 11-80 changed “Department of Public Utility Control” to “Department of Energy and Environmental Protection”, changed “chairperson of the Public Utilities Control Authority” to “commissioner and the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority”, changed “hearing examiners” to “hearing officers”, and required commissioner to appoint hearing officers and assign such other staff as necessary, effective July 1, 2011; P.A. 13-298 replaced “Department of Energy and Environmental Protection” with “Public Utilities Regulatory Authority” and “The commissioner shall appoint such hearing officers” with “A panel of one or more utility commissioners may assign a hearing officer”, added provision re chairperson of authority assigning other staff and made technical changes, effective July 8, 2013.
