(1) Claims are divided into classifications, as follows:

  1. Initial claim, which establishes a benefit year and is valid as defined in section 8-70111 (2)(a); or

  2. Additional claim, which reopens a claim series within an existing benefit year after asecond or subsequent period of unemployment; or

  3. Reopened claim, which reopens a claim within an existing benefit year when therehas been no intervening employment since the last claim for a week of unemployment.
