As used in this article, unless the context otherwise requires:

  1. "Aircraft" means any vehicle used or designed for carrying any person, persons, orfreight and used or designed for aviation or flight in the air in control of a crew member, whether it is or is not a certificated vehicle under the rules of the federal aviation administration, and the federal department of transportation, or its successor.

  2. "Controls" means the wheel, yoke, stick, cyclic, collective, throttle, mixture, propeller, lever, switch, gage, circuit breaker, doors, emergency exits, or any other thing that pertains to the safe operation of an aircraft.

  3. "Crewmember" means any person assigned to perform any duty in an aircraft duringflight time.

  4. "Flight time" means any time from the moment an aircraft is occupied and in control.

  5. "Operating an aircraft" means being in actual physical control or having immediateaccess to the controls of an aircraft, or being involved in the safe operation of any part of an aircraft as a crewmember.
