(1) Any person who wrongfully damages, injures, or destroys, or in any manner impairs the usefulness of any facility, property, structure, improvement, equipment, or other property of the district acquired under the provisions of this article, or who wrongfully interferes with any officer, agent, or employee of the district in the proper discharge of his duties is guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than ninety days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
(2) If the district is damaged by any such act, it may also bring a civil action for damages sustained by any such act, and in such proceeding the prevailing party shall also be entitled to reasonable attorneys' fees and costs of court.
