(1) The executive director shall appoint a chief medical officer who shall:

  1. Have a degree of doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy and be licensed topractice medicine in the state of Colorado;

  2. Have at least two years of postgraduate experience in primary care; and

  3. Have at least two years of experience in an administrative capacity in a health careorganization.

  1. The chief medical officer shall, with the assistance of advisory committees of thestate department, provide medical judgment and advice regarding all medical issues involving programs administered by the state department.

  2. The chief medical officer shall receive a salary within the limits of moneys madeavailable to the state department by appropriation of the general assembly or otherwise.
