School safety resource center advisory board - created - repeal.

(1) There is hereby created in the department the school safety resource center advisory board to recommend policies of the center.

(2) (a) The advisory board shall consist of not less than fourteen members, each of whom shall be appointed to a term of two years as follows:

  1. One member shall represent the department of education created pursuant to section24-1-115 and be appointed by the commissioner of education.

  2. One member shall be an individual with professional expertise in behavioral healthtreatment who represents an elementary or secondary school or a school district and be appointed by the commissioner of education.

  3. One member shall be a school administrator and be appointed by the commissionerin consultation with a statewide association of school executives.

  4. One member shall represent state universities and colleges and be appointed by theexecutive director of the Colorado commission on higher education appointed pursuant to section 24-1-114.

  5. One member shall represent community colleges and local district colleges and beappointed by the state board for community colleges and occupational education created pursuant to section 23-60-104, C.R.S.

  6. One member shall be a member of a parents' organization and be appointed by thegovernor.

  7. One member shall be a district attorney and be appointed by the governor.

  8. One member shall represent the unit within the department of human services,created pursuant to section 26-1-105, C.R.S., that administers behavioral health programs and services, including those related to mental health and substance abuse, and be appointed by the executive director of the department of human services.

  9. One member shall represent the department of public health and environment created pursuant to section 25-1-102, C.R.S., and be appointed by the executive director of the department of public health and environment.

  10. One member shall represent the Colorado department of law created pursuant tosection 24-1-113 and be appointed by the attorney general.

  11. One member shall represent the department and be appointed by the executive director.

  12. One member shall be an individual with professional expertise in school securityand be appointed by the executive director.

  13. One member shall be a law enforcement professional and be appointed by theexecutive director.

  14. One member must be a school resource officer, as defined in section 22-32-109.1 (1), C.R.S., and be appointed by the executive director in consultation with a statewide association representing school resource officers.

  1. The appointing authority of each member of the advisory board shall appoint themember on or before October 1, 2008, and reappoint the member or appoint a new member no later than one month before the expiration of the member's term.

  2. Additional advisory board members may be added to the advisory board as necessarysubject to:

  1. The approval of the executive director; and

  2. A majority vote of approval by the existing advisory board members.

  1. If any member of the advisory board vacates his or her office during the term forwhich appointed to the advisory board, the vacancy shall be filled by appointment by the executive director for the unexpired term.

  2. The advisory board shall annually elect from its members a chairperson and a secretary.

  3. The advisory board shall meet as determined necessary by the director. The membersof the advisory board shall receive no compensation but shall be reimbursed by the department for necessary travel and other expenses actually incurred in the performance of their official duties.

  4. (a) This section is repealed, effective September 1, 2022.

(b) Prior to said repeal, the advisory board appointed pursuant to this section shall be reviewed as provided in section 2-3-1203, C.R.S.
